4.3 Global Hunger Index

The GHI is a multidimensional tool computed by the IFPRI every year to monitor hunger on global, regional and country levels and to raise awareness and understanding among regions and countries about the differences in fighting hunger in different parts of the world (Von Grebmer et al. 2015).

The GHI is a multidimensional index that reflects the multidimensional nature of hunger. It is computed by considering the food and nutritional status of the overall population and children in a country. The components of the index are as follows:The percentage of the population that is undernourished (PUN), which is measured by the FAO and is considered an indicator of insufficient food;
